Shadowfever

As with all of the fever series, it is very hard to give a description of this book without any spoilers. Let's just say it was amazing, and answered every question that I had had.

Who is the Beast? Check.
What is Barrons? Check.
What is up with Mac and the Prophecies? Check.
How did the Book Escape? Check.
Who Killed Alina? Check.

And so many more. I had noticed previously a small scene that happened that had me thinking the beast was/wansn't a certain character. When the opposite of what I thought would happen happened, I wondered how that was. Well - that was answered too.

Every time you think you have your understanding of what is going on, you are side swiped and everything changes. As a reader, you learn things that same way Mac does and I really felt for her.

This was an emotional book with lots of twists and turns. I cried in the first two chapters, was fist pumping and yelling a few more later, I was in shock, I was in denial, I was frustrated, I was saddened, I wanted revenge, I was hit over the head and my jaw dropped. It all came through in the near 600 pages.

I was pleasantly surprised at the end, in the about the author note that it said she was currently working on a new series set in the fever world. Although I assume it won't center around Mac and Barrons (and I love them), but I am kind of excited to see where the world goes. I'm thinking perhaps it will be about Dani? Her story was left slightly open at the end. Unless it's a totally new character.

As the book says in it's last pages. The end.... ...for now.

Dreamfever

This book (and series in general) has left me with so many unanswered questions. While reading through the series, I realized just how many unanswered questions. There are questions from the first book that we are told we'll find out later - and it's later and I still don't know the answer.

But here we go - Shadowfever is sitting next to me. It's almost 600 pages long and has a beautiful cover. It's time to answer some questions - namely: Who is the beast? What is Barrons? What is up with Mac and the Prophecies? Will Mac and Barrons get some sort of Happily Ever After?

Faefever

Faefever fills in many blanks. This book of the series seems to answer a lot of questions and brings in a lot of information about the characters (but unfortunately, not Barrons) and the Fae stories. I felt like while I was rereading this, my eyes were opened once again. With the exception of the ending of Dreamfever and Mac's battle against becoming Pri-ya, I don't remember much of the story line.

I still feel like this is on a different level then the first two. Much like the Harry Potter series, that got dark and serious quite fast, Faefever does the same thing for the Fever series.

For some odd reason, I feel like I love Barrons way more this time around. Maybe because I've been doing my best to envision him the way he is portrayed instead of my own twisted way - and is he Hot.

Bloodfever

There is one major thought that is running through my mind as I reread these books. Who is the Beast (from Dreamfever). I feel like in Dreamfever it points to Barrons, but I feel like that will not be the best for the storyline and I feel like it's too obvious.

It's interesting that in Bloodfever there is a lot of mentions of full moons and rainy (well it IS Ireland) nights. Whenever the moon is full, Barrons isn't around, or Mac hears strange beastly noises from the underground vault.

I feel like the Darkfever and Bloodfever go together well with their story line encompassing Malluce. On some blogs, I've read that people think if this does go ahead and become a movie that the first two books will be made into a single movie.

Every time I read these I pick up more things that I connect to the later books. I love that I can do that, yet the story is not yet finished. I really think that these two books are kind of like the exposition to the Fever story. We are learning the major players and they are feeling each other out. Then in the next two books - all hell breaks loose.

Darkfever

In anticipation of Shadowfever, I have started to reread (again) the Fever series. It has been a year and a half since I read the series last, and I want to be ready when the conclusion comes out.

I felt that the book seemed to be getting to the point where it seemed dated. It has a copyright of 2006. At one point Mac says that her cell phone doesn't have texting capabilities or a camera. What phone doesn't have those things in this day? I laughed a bit as I thought back to myself in 2006. I had a pink LG Chocolate phone and had just started texting. I did so little that I paid per text instead of having a plan. Compared to now, when I have a Droid. There was something else that also said dated to me, but I can't recall what it was.

Every time I reread a description of Barrons, I get a wake-up call. I don't know why, but I don't imagine him at what age he is described as. Darkfever puts him at about 30 and of course very attractive. For some reason, when I imagine Barrons I don't imagine him correctly. I think of him as a little older than that (well let's be realistic, we don't know much about Barrons, he could be over 100 for all we know). I know he has this sexual tension with Mac, and I don't envision him as unattractive, but I don't think of him as drop dead gorgeous either.

I did some searching online and he seems to be compared to Gerald Butler. I will remember that now.

I think this is one of my all time favorite series. I have a very light touch with my books. The spines are never broken, pages never bent. Pick up any of my books and they look brand new. They always have that stiff book feeling. I noticed while reading Dreamfever that my book has started to feel worn in. It is still in excellent condition, but the pages are a little less crisp, the book a little easier to open. It may be the most read book of my collection.

Dreamfever

I think the book gods are frowning on me. Lately I haven't been getting a whole lot of hours at any of my jobs, but the week that Dreamfever came out all of a sudden I didn't have a spare minute to read. But I FINALLY finished!

What to say about the book - I was fantastic. Just as good as the others in the series. Of course the battle between Fae and Human continues. Mac learns a little more about the prophecy. She worries about who to trust, and we meet some new characters. Aside from this, I feel like saying too much more would give it away.

I read on another blog that the cliffhanger at the end was crazy. I figured it couldn't be any worse then the cliffhanger at the end of Faefever. I was right - I don't think the cliffhanger was as crazy, however it is a good one. I cannot help but wonder who it is.

Wherever I read that Dreamfever would have some parts from Barrons POV, they were sorely mistaken. Sometimes the book is told from Dani's point of view, but never Barrons.

Faefever

Mac gets darker as the series continues, but needs to in order to stay alive. In Faefever she realizes that she has been putting her eggs all in one basket (so to speak). She starts trying to branch out and enlist the help of as many people as she can to keep alive. She doesn't trust them all, but works with them.

The walls between Fae and Humans are crumbling and all hell breaks loose. The ending of this book to me was a real cliff hanger.

I accomplished my goal and finished this book tonight to be ready for Dreamfever tomorrow. While rereading these books the past week I kept thinking about how I've heard that Dreamfever is told from Barron's point of view. I tried to make guesses about how that's going to go and I really hope that we learn a little more about him because his character is so mysterious.

Bloodfever

Mac's story continues. She looks for more OOP, she pisses off more bad guys and things get bad. She now has an inspector that is following her every move and dragging her off to the police station for questioning. She almost dies. She has some searing kisses with Barrons. She continues the hunt for the dark book.

Another reread for me in preparation of Dreamfever's release tomorrow. I have 1 day to get through Faefever (and go to work) before the release tomorrow. My goal is to finish Faefever tonight, go to bed and pick up Dreamfever tomorrow morning (hopefully before work).

I felt that the story between the two books is seamless, although sometimes I feel as if I can't exactly tell you what has happened, because it seems as if nothing really has. Or it has, but is somewhat of a spoiler. So I'll leave my poor explaination of the story as is and instead think ahead to Faefever, where I remember the ending is insane. What perfect timing for the end of a book.

Darkfever

This for me was a reread. I read this October last year. The fourth book of the series is coming out a week from tomorrow, and I wanted to be refreshed before I read it. My original review of the first there is here. I like these books enough that I own the entire series, for me sometimes that is saying a lot.

This book is the start of Mac's story (obviously). She learns of her sisters death and heads out to Dublin to figure out who killed her. The police haven't gotten any leads and closed the case, but that's not enough for Mac.

When she gets to Ireland she starts seeing odd things. Creatures that shouldn't exist, double vision and other oddities that she can't explain. Eventually this leads her to Barron's Books and Baubles (perhaps where I came up with the blog name...) where she meets the Barron himself. There is something odd about him but she just can't put her finger on it. The two of them then go on a hunt for Fae objects and the deadly book, pissing off way to many people in that world.

Reading this book for the second time was interesting. I started adding to my collection of "What Makes Barron Odd...What IS He?!" Mac tells the story as though she is looking back on time and since I feel like I know "future Mac" this was an interesting way for me to read it this second time around. Since I know enough about the Fae world from reading the books already I also feel like I was able to pull some more information together because initially I wasn't so confused.

Not all books are as good the second time around, but this one was well worth my second read. Next up is Book 2 - Bloodfever.

Fever Series

Ever since reading the Twilight Series I have been on a paranormal romance kick. I went searching for books that fell into that category but were not to "weird." I found a plethora. I recently finished reading the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning - well finished in the sense that I've finished what's out there and I'm waiting for more.

The series to date has three books to it:










The series is about MacKayla Lane - a young woman from rural Georgia with a twin sister. Her twin sister moves to Ireland and is murdered at the beginning of the first book. Mac has her sister's dying message on her cell phone and decides to go to Ireland to find the murderer (since the cops are no help.)

Once there Mac learns about another part of her world. The Fae part. Mac is a Sidhe-Seer, the magic from the Fae does not work on her, boy does that piss them off :). There are Dark Fae and Light Fae, but in reality none of them are what you would call "Good."

The Books follow Mac as she meets new people who are also involved in this world and learns more about her sister, who never told her about any of this. There is a book of the dead that everyone wants, sex crazed fae, and a mysterious employer/housemate. Mac learns to be afraid of the dark/shadows and to pretend not to see the many things she does.

When the third book leaves us, the walls between Fae and the rest of the word have come down leaving everything in mass chaos and it is up to Mac to save the world.

There are two more books to the series: Dreamfever and Shadowfever... I have yet to find a date of release for them.

Oh yes - these are marketed as Romance, although there is no typical ending with the two characters together in any of the books.
