Niol is a level 10 demon and pretty much the biggest bad ass in town. He's also the owner of Paradise, an Other bar that has come up often in the other books in the series. He's not particularly proud of the life he's lived, but he's had to do what he's had to do.

Holly Storm is a reporter, who knows about the Others and uses many of them for sources. She's drawn to Niol and is aware of the less than stand up things he's done in the past, but he's also saved her life several times. Things start to go sour for Holly when her sources start getting murdered.

Holly and Niol decide to team up to find this demon killer. They "pretend" to be dating, even though they pretty much really are. It works to both of their advantages being able to get into places they otherwise would not. Not surprisingly, the killer turns their attentions to Niol and Holly.

Cynthia Eden is just such a hot writer. Her scenes between the main characters simply sizzle and this was another book that was finished in one sitting. I had no trouble jumping right back in, even though I've been waiting for my library to get this book for over a year.

I loved the relationship between Niol and Holly, they didn't want to be attracted to each other, but didn't fight it either. They let things take a natural course.

Midnight Sins

Midnight Sins is the second book in Cynthia Eden's Midnight Series. The first was Hotter After Midnight. Midnight Sins follows the story of Cara, a succubus who is looking for a meaningful relationship and has given up sex and Todd, and cop and Colin's (from Book 1) partner.

There are deaths happening again in the city and it looks like it's another Other serial killer. They are all men found bound with no reason for being dead. When the Medical Examiner takes a look the men look like they are in fantastic health with no reason for death, until they find an outline on the chest of one of the bodies.

It looks like it's the work of a succubus, and when Todd and Colin go to bring in who the evidence points to, Cara, the sparks fly.

I really love the stories about succubi. I think what an awesome type of demon - a sex demon! I think that this book was better than the first. There was less lull...perhaps because of all of the steamy scenes between Todd and Cara.

I am eagerly awaiting book 3, which came out a July 1st, Midnight Masters. My library, however, doesn't have it (yet). Looks like this series is getting put on hold for a bit.

Hotter After Midnight

I define a good romance novel as one of those books that when you're finished your heart is pounding, feels big and in love. Not all romance novels leave me feeling this way - but Cynthia Eden's Hotter After Midnight was definitely one of those. I sat down and read it cover to cover, an increasing rarity in my life.

Emily is a psychiatrist, with a twist. She can see inside the mind of Others, so those are the only ones she treats. Vampires with blood phobias, a succubus who wants a meaningful relationship, as well as shifters (think werewolf), charmers and a slew of other paranormal. She helps them all.

Colin is a shifter, I won't spoil what kind - it's a bit of a mystery until further in the story, although I was pretty sure I knew and I was correct. He works for the police department and is sent to pick up the Monster Doctor, Emily, to work on a case that is part of the paranormal. Not everyone in the story is aware of the Others, so they have to keep it underwraps.

Things go a bit haywire and soon Emily finds herself as a big target for the killer they're tracking. Needless to say her shifter man wants to keep her safe.

I thought this was an excellent story, with just the right amount of mystery to it. Their love story to me was front and center and there are lots of excellently steamy scenes between the two. My only issue with the book, and I'm being picky, is her use of the word "cream." To me, it was just not right.

This is the first book in a trilogy with the second, Midnight Sins, already released and a third Midnight Masters set to be released July 1st. Midnight Sins revolves around the Succubus who wants a meaningful relationship, Cara, that we meet in an interview with Emily in Hotter After Midnight. Definitely a book I'm looking forward too.
