Bloody Valentine

Title: Bloody Valentine
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Blood (Extra)
Genre: Young Adult

Imagine my surprise when I found out this book was 3 short stories instead of another addition to the story. I found this to be quite a waste of the half hour it took to read it.

"Just Another Night in Suck City" revolves around Oliver and how he is dealing with being separated from Schuyler. Then he randomly meets a witch who takes his pain and unmarks him. He now is fine.

"Always Something There to Remind Me" tells the story of how Schuyler's parents met. Since we've never really seen much of either of these characters, I really didn't find it to be relevant.

"Ring of Fire" was the rumored Jack & Schuyler bonding ceremony, which was terribly disappointing. Aside from the first chapter when Schuyler was shopping for her dress, I could have done without this story as well.

Definitely not impressed and the next actual book isn't released until October.

Misguided Angel

Title: Misguided Angel
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Blood (Book 5)
Genre: Young Adult

Jack and Schuyler are continuing their search for a hidden gate. This takes them on adventures around the world and wondering who they can trust.

Mimi is named the Regent and has to deal with the exposure of vampires and the burning of some more fellow classmates.

Oliver is trying to live his life without Schuyler and creates an interesting bond with Mimi (one I personally would like to see explored more)

We are also introduced to a new character, Deming Chen, a Venator brought in to help with the deaths. She has the ability to see what we would call auras, and looks like she's going to play a part in the next book as well.

This book is quite short and honestly, when I was done I felt like I had learned little and was slightly confused about what I did learn. As I've mentioned in the past, I feel like this series has so many turns and surprises that it is difficult to give it a good review without a bunch of spoilers.

I see why this book may be essential to move the storyline along, but of the series this was quite forgettable. I am excited about the next book, however, which is suppose to revolve around Jack and Schuyler's bonding.

Keys to the Repository

Title: Keys to the Repository
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Blood (Extra)
Genre: Young Adult

I was highly disappointed in this book. I went into it knowing that it wasn't the next book in the series in the way of a storyline, but instead just information on characters and what not. That being said, I didn't feel that there was much information there that was new/relevant. I disliked how it seemed to me basically to be a quick retelling of the other books so far in the series.

I felt that reading the information/stories about the vampires in their previous lives was a bit difficult. I know of few of their angel names, but not all of them. This led the stories to seem to be about totally different people.

There were a few tidbits that made reading it not totally worthless, and I highly enjoyed the first two chapters from Misguided Angel, the next book in the series.

The Van Alen Legacy

Title: The Van Alen Legacy
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Blood (Book 4)
Genre: Young Adult

Schuyler and Oliver are running from the NY Blue Bloods. They think that Schuyler killed her grandfather and are afraid of what might happen if they are caught.

Mimi is traipsing around the world with Kingsly, looking for the Watcher who can inform them on what is going on.

Jack is a Venator as well and looking for Schuyler.

Bliss is battling the demon that is inside of her and trying to gain some part of her life back.

I usually enjoy the Blue Blood series, but had a hard time getting into this one. I think that it's been too long since I last read one. There are always so many spoilers that it's hard to write a review on these books. You are always kept guessing and wondering.

Revelations

Title: Revelations
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Blood (Book 3)
Genre: Young Adult

When we meet back up with Schuyler, she is living at the Force household, where Jack is ignoring her, Mimi is making her life hell, and Oliver is forbidden to see her. Things are starting to go sour in Rio and her grandfather is sent down there to investigate.

There are a lot of twists and turns in this installment. You think you know something and then the world is turned upside down and you don't.

I am anxiously awaiting book 4, The Van Alen Legacy, which is released the first week of October. Looks like a promising continuation to a series that keeps you guessing.

Masquerade: a Blue Bloods Novel

Title: Masquerade
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Bloods (Book 2)
Genre: Young Adult

In Masquerade, the search for the Silver Bloods continue! It opens with Oliver and Schuyler being in Venice looking for her grandfather. They do find him, but he isn't any help and they come back to New York disappointed.

I felt like there is little to say about this installment without giving much of the story away. I think that Masquerade was better than the first book, with more information let out (especially at the end), and a bit more action.

Next up is Book 3: Revelations.

Blue Bloods

Title: Blue Bloods
Author: Melissa De La Cruz
Series: Blue Bloods (Book 1)
Genre: Young Adult

I see this book/series every time I go to Target, and I finally decided to get it from the library. It is another Vampire series that is aimed at high school students.

Blue Bloods follows 2 different groups of friends who go to an elite prep school in New York City. There is normal High School Drama and cliques going on throughout the story, but there is a little something else that also lies right below the surface.

Many of the families who go to this school can trace their family tree to the Mayflower. This is no coincidence. These families are also members of a "charity organization" that is a front for what they really are, Blue Bloods, Vampires.

Now like every other Vampire story that is out there the rules behind being a Vampire are a little different. I think that's part of my favorite parts of books like these, the way the author has to think that through and makes it their own. They don't realize that they aren't normal until they reach age 15. Then the symptoms manifest themselves and they begin to crave raw meat, have nightmares about events in history, and get prominent blue veins in their arms. They live only 100 years, a single drop of their blood is saved and then they are reborn after a waiting period. Therefore their family tree relatives are really the same people who are around today.

They are suppose to be immortal for those 100 years, and some have tried to kill themselves by running in front of a train, but lately some have been dying. It ends up being due to Silver Bloods.

I enjoy this story and it was another quick read. The only issue I had with it is it seemed to have no ending. The vampires were dying due to something mysterious. They find out it is the Silver Bloods and that's it. They don't find the Silver Bloods, they don't stop them, they don't know who they are, nothing. I felt like I needed more closure, but perhaps that's to get you to read the next book, which I shall be doing.
