Chains of Fire

Title: Chains of Fire
Author: Christina Dodd
Series: The Chosen Ones (Book 4)
Genre: Paranormal

Samuel Faa is one of the Chosen Ones, a Mind Controller and an impressive lawyer. He has had a rough childhood with a butler for an adoptive Dad, who thinks Samuel cannot rise above that station in life.

Isabelle Mason, another Chosen One and a healer, is the adoptive daughter of a wealthy family who just happens to have Samuel's Dad as a butler.

Isabelle and Samuel have had an attraction since they met at the ages of four and five. They've dated twice and both times ended less then amicably. That said, there is always a tension between the two of them now that they are Chosen together. Their lives are woven together between their families and work and they are often thrown together.

The two go off to save an kidnapped abandoned child and after saving the child are caught together in an avalanche, narrowly escaping. They are trapped in a tomb like basement due to the avalanche, and old feelings run high.

Another intriguing addition to the Chosen Ones series. I enjoyed seeing the characters just give in to each other, although I really felt like the two of them should have gotten their marks and enhanced powers before they did. I think that the meeting with Osgood was kind of a cop-out for their greatest fear.

Chains of Ice

Title: Chains of Ice
Author: Christina Dodd
Series: The Chosen Ones (Book 3)
Genre: Paranormal

Genny Valente has been bullied into doing things by her father her whole life. While she wanted to be a veterinarian, her father made her go to business school. She eventually has basically given up on her own hopes and dreams when her father surprises her with a trip with a renowned expert to study an endangered species, the Ural Lynx. Unfortunately, the trip is tainted. Genny made a deal with an agency so that she could get the money to go to college. She thought she was going to pay them back in money - but now they are calling in a favor. They want her to seek out John Powell and bring him back to NYC.

It's not an easy trip and right off the bat, Genny hears stories of the "Yeti" A man who has secluded himself away into the wilderness and only shows up in town for one of two reasons: his mail or to choose and ravish a woman with the best sex of her life. Of course, this is John Powell.

Genny knows that someone is watching her and assumes it is John. This suspicion doesn't get confirmed until she nearly dies while watching for the Lynx, and John saves her life. After that they seem to have some magical pull to each other. John shows her where Mama Cat and her kittens live and Genny is blessed with some of the best photos and experiences of her life.

But John isn't all happy and loving. He is dealing with some dark issues from his past, that he eventually confesses to Genny. It doesn't matter to her and she tries to help him heal and see things from a different view.

But then John finds out what Genny's original motive was for seeking him out. He is furious with her and she leaves him and leads him to believe that she has died.

Up until this point, the story could have basically been a stand alone book. None of the characters from the previous books really make an appearance, with the exception of the mention of Gary. But thinking that Genny is dead, John goes and seeks out the remaining Chosen Ones and offers his services.

I really enjoyed this installment to the series. I read it in one day and just felt like I couldn't put it down. The relationship between Genny and John for the most part was pretty cute, although I was a little put off by how soon after meeting John spills all his darkest secrets. You think he would have waited a little longer.

Storm of Shadows

Title: Storm of Shadows
Author: Christina Dodd
Series: The Chosen Ones (Book 2)
Genre: Paranormal

Aaron is one of the Chosen Ones. His gift is that he can turn himself into a dark mist and basically be invisible and get through anything. Awfully helpful in his job as a thief.

Rosamund is a librarian, who studies ancient texts and artifacts. As we find out later, her parents were both murdered by the Others.

Aaron meets Rosamund when he goes to her for help on finding a prophecy. When he finds out that the Others have also made contact with her to help THEM find the same prophecy, he whisks her away to Irving's house and the rest of the Chosen Ones.

From their they are led on a wild chase around the world: Casablanca, Paris, and the Sacred Cave. They eventually do find the prophecy, and it sets up the rest of the series.

I enjoyed this book more then the first one in the series. I don't know if it was the characters, my personal state of mind or the fact that I already knew the characters and had an easier time getting into this book. I usually find that I like the first book in a series the best out of all of them, this will not be the case in this series.

If they continue to get better as it goes on, I am anxiously awaiting the next in the series - which as of current I can find no information on.

Storm of Visions

Title: Storm of Visions
Author: Christina Dodd
Series: The Chosen Ones (Book 1)
Genre: Paranormal

Sometime around the early years of mankind, a pair of twins were born. Their parents were perfect, and when the parents found out their babies were far from it they abandoned them and left them for dead. Fortunately both babies were saved, although by different people. One grew up to be good and one grew up to be the dark side.

From then on, all abandoned babies are brought either to the good side, the Chosen, or the bad side, the Others. This had been going on for hundreds of years until we are in present day.

The most recent group of the Chosens are prepping to be basically inducted into the group. They all have different abilities such as mind control, a seer, and many others. As they are meeting each other a huge explosion happens at the center building of the Chosen ones. All die with the exception of the newbies who have no idea what they are up against.

While learning all about this new world and the new Chosen group, we meet Jacqueline, the seer, and Caleb, who is not a Chosen one, but one of their bodyguards. The two have quite a crazy history together and seem to have a love hate relationship.

I've read many other Christina Dodd books before and I've always liked them, this one, however, I felt a bit disappointed with. I thought the story line didn't have a very high dramatic point and we didn't really get to know the main characters. I also felt like I was thrown a few too many new characters initially, and even now after I'm done with the book I'm having a hard time knowing who is who.

I will most likely finish the series (which is currently being written) for no other reason then I already own the first two. I had Borders Bucks to spend, and felt like I couldn't go wrong with a Christina Dodd. Maybe the second book will be better since I've some handle on who the characters are.
